Welcoming New Additions to Our Trustee Team

Pi Partnership is delighted to welcome Hans-Christoph Hirt and Donald Fleming to our Professional Trustee team.

Hans was previously Managing Director and board member of EOS at Federated Hermes, set up in September 1983, to manage the pension funds of British Telecommunications (BT) and the Post Office – against a backdrop of financial deregulation, the privatisation of state-owned companies and trade-union reform. EOS has evolved to become the leading provider of voting and engagement services and Hans led its fourfold growth to over $1.6 trillion in assets under advice. Previously a Managing Director at UBS AM, Hans is a recognised expert in governance and sustainable investing, he is also a member-nominated trustee of the Hermes pension scheme. Earlier in his career, he practised corporate law at Ashurst and has a PhD in Corporate Law. He has co-edited a book on stewardship and sustainability in investment management, and now teaches at leading universities. He also sits on UCL’s Centre for Ethics and Law advisory board. Hans will provide thought leadership on Defined Contribution scheme development to the Pi team, with a focus on evolving Master Trust requirements.

Pi Partnership Welcomes Hans-Christoph Hirt & Donald Fleming to Trustee Team

Donald is a well known industry professional and brings a distinctive range of career experience to his trusteeship. He worked initially as a banking lawyer and then as a corporate financier in a major city firm before moving into the pensions world in 2005 and establishing a well-regarded covenant practice. As well as having advised trustee boards across the range of corporate merger and acquisition transactions, scheme mergers and sectionalisation, buy-ins and buyouts, as a professional trustee Donald also brings specific experience of working with larger schemes (often with overseas parents) with particular experience in the utilities, financials, telecoms and not-for-profit sectors, as well as working with large Master Trusts. He co-edited ‘Good Governance for Pension Schemes’, is a past Chair of the Employer Covenant Practitioners Association and is a regular speaker at industry events.

Our Head of Trusteeship Stated:

“Increasing the trustee team’s legal, academic and covenant expertise will help Pi to bring increased diversity to Trustee Boards, whether defined benefit schemes looking at the range of long-term strategies from traditional buyout to run-on, or Master Trusts and other DC arrangements facing the challenges of decumulation investment strategies and intergenerational requirements. We are therefore delighted to welcome Hans and Donald to the team” – Lynn Pointon, Head of Trusteeship
