Alex McCallion

Scheme Secretary

Alex plays a vital role supporting a large multi-scheme client offering both DB and DC pension arrangements. His responsibilities include setting meeting agendas, preparing comprehensive meeting packs, and accurately minuting trustee and sub-committee meetings. Alex also supports the financial governance of the schemes by assisting with setting annual budgets, monitoring expenditure, and producing regular budget updates for the trustee. He manages Internal Dispute Resolution Procedure complaints and other member requests that require trustee discretion, ensuring that such matters are managed efficiently and with due diligence.

Alex is actively involved in a number of significant projects, including a complex scheme merger, GMP equalisation exercises, developing and implementing a communications strategy, and enhancing member options within the scheme to improve member engagement and outcomes.

Beginning his pensions career in administration, Alex quickly moved into governance, where he supported the Chief Operating Officer for a large DB client. In this role, he acted as Scheme Secretary and Governance Adviser to the Trustee, deepening his understanding of pension scheme management and regulatory compliance. He further built on this experience when he joined a trustee company, providing scheme secretarial support to a diverse portfolio of clients. These ranged from complex DB and DC schemes with assets between £50 million and £2 billion, covering varied governance and operational needs.

Before joining Pi, Alex worked as an Administration Service Manager overseeing both DB and DC clients, including two master trust schemes. He was responsible for the delivery of administration services and managed several large-scale projects, such as bulk transfers of scheme sections into and out of master trusts, internal migration of administration platforms following company acquisitions, coordination with insurers on buy-in transactions for DB sections, and facilitating a master trust merger.
