Huw Davies

Professional Trustee and Scheme Manager

Huw, an Accredited Trustee with the Association of Professional Pension Trustees, brings over 35 years of experience in the pensions industry. At Pi, Huw serves as the lead trustee on three schemes, two of which currently progressing through buyout. He also provides technical support to Pi’s wider team of trustees, drawing on his deep actuarial and investment expertise to help deliver effective outcomes for schemes and their members.

Before joining Pi, Huw enjoyed a varied and distinguished career at Mercer, where he advised trustees of both DB and DC schemes in roles spanning benefit consultancy, actuarial work, and investment consulting. He also acted as a trustee for a portfolio of Small Self-Administered Schemes, further broadening his practical governance experience.

At Pi he has worked on a wide range of schemes.  One of his major roles was acting as Scheme Secretary to a £1bn multiemployer Scheme, organising trustee meetings and coordinating work carried out by the many adviser groups. He also managed the GMP reconciliation project for that Scheme, which had over 20,000 members. Another notable case was when he acted a trustee on a high profile TPR appointment, where the previous trustees had been removed and he successfully negotiated a top up payment to allow the Scheme to be wound up with full benefits.

Huw has contributed to the wider pension’s community through speaking engagements at the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries on Small Self-Administered Schemes and at the Association of Consulting Actuaries conference on risk management in DB funding. He was also a member of the IFoA’s Decumulation Working Party, reflecting his commitment to advancing best practice across the industry.
