Laura Johns

Governance Consultant and Scheme Secretary

Laura has extensive knowledge of occupational pension schemes with over twenty years’ experience in the pensions industry, initially as a pension consultant supporting a range of trustee boards with DB and DC schemes of varying sizes and industries. She then moved in-house to BAE Systems and was a key member of the pension team for over eleven years, prior to joining Pi Partnership in February 2025.

Laura has been involved in a wide range of projects including PPF levy work, GMP rectification exercises, liability reduction exercises, mergers, transfers (trust-based DC to a master trust arrangement) and administration transitions. In her later years at BAE Systems as Head of Member Services, Laura successfully built and managed a team responsible for all things member related. She chaired the DC Master Trust oversight committee, delivered member engagement programmes, 1-2-1 workshops and provided operational support to the corporate.

Laura’s current focus is delivering full trustee secretariat and Pension Manager services, working both in outsourced roles and in close partnership with in-house pensions teams. She brings extensive experience to governance projects, including operational structure reviews, trustee board effectiveness reviews, and Member-Nominated Director selection exercises. Laura has a strong professional network and up-to-date knowledge of advisers, market propositions, and regulatory and legislative change across the pensions landscape. She is passionate about clear, effective member engagement and communications.

With a background that combines third-party consultancy and in-house pension team experience, Laura has first-hand insight into issues that clients may face, exposure to a range of stakeholders and importantly what best practice and good governance looks like. She can challenge advisers constructively and work through issues in a solution focussed way.

Laura is an Associate of the Pensions Management Institute (PMI) and has a degree in Business Management. She sits on PASA’s Member Communications & Engagement Working Group and PMI’s Policy & Public Affairs Working Group.
