Sam Ashraf

Professional Trustee

Sam is a qualified actuary and Accredited Trustee through the Association of Professional Pension Trustees, with a wide-ranging background in scheme governance, funding, and risk management. She acts as a professional independent trustee, working with DB and DC schemes across a variety of sectors and sizes.

With a strong technical foundation and strategic mindset, Sam brings valuable insight to trustee boards. Her actuarial background enables her to analyse complex funding issues and engage effectively with sponsors and advisers. She is known for her practical, measured approach to decision-making and her ability to navigate challenging scenarios with calm and clarity.

Sam is an active contributor to the pensions industry, serving on the APPT’s ESG Committee and participating in initiatives with the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries. Her involvement reflects her commitment to driving high standards of governance and integrating responsible investment practices into trustee thinking.

Sam has supported schemes through all stages of the pension lifecycle, including buy-in and buy-out transactions, regulatory engagement, and scheme wind-up. She has particular experience in managing schemes with stressed funding positions, helping trustees and employers find pragmatic solutions that protect member outcomes. She is also involved in exploring innovative consolidation options for DB schemes and helping DC trustees develop modern, member-focused retirement pathways.

Clients and colleagues value Sam’s collaborative style and ability to communicate technical concepts in a clear and accessible way. She is trusted to foster strong relationships with advisers, fellow trustees, and sponsors to deliver shared objectives with transparency and accountability.

Amanda Burden

Director and Governance Specialist

Amanda is a Board Director of Pi Partnership Group and leads the development of Pi’s services. She works closely with clients, the Pi team and professional advisers to ensure all of Pi’s services meet the changing needs of the pension market and deliver clear value to Pi’s clients.

Amanda has over twenty-five years’ experience in the pensions industry and, as well as ensuring Pi’s services continue to meet the needs of our clients in a rapidly changing pension landscape, is also a member of Pi’s Executive Management Team. She provides specialist project management for clients on a range of services, including adviser selection and review, trustee board assessment and governance design.

As well as being a Fellow of the Pensions Management Institute (PMI) and Chair of the PMI London Group, Amanda holds PMI certificates in Pensions Automatic Enrolment and DC Governance, was a past Prince2 practitioner and is a Certified Risk Management Practitioner.

What do you most enjoy about your role:  Successfully delivering complex projects and creating a happy team environment.

Interests outside work: Travel, theatre and as part of Abundance London helping create beautiful spaces in urban settings.

Top achievement to date: Competing in the 2005/06 Round the World Clipper race.
