Sarah is a Fellow of the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries and an Accredited Trustee through the Association of Professional Pension Trustees. She also serves as a Council Member of the APPT, reflecting her dedication to maintaining professional standards and contributing to the broader pension’s community.

Sarah has been delivering professional independent trustee services for over 10 years, managing a diverse portfolio of both DB and DC arrangements. As a qualified actuary, she combines technical knowledge with practical governance experience to provide effective oversight. Sarah frequently specialises in smaller schemes, often serving as Sole Trustee, where her clear, pragmatic and results-driven approach is highly regarded by sponsors and advisers alike. Her ability to translate UK pension legislation to overseas sponsors helps in positioning budgets and agreeing scheme objectives.

She has been involved in a wide range of complex pension projects. These include transitions to Master Trusts, GMP equalisation and underpin resolutions, and supporting buy-in and buy-out transactions through to scheme wind-up. This includes ensuring the most cost-effective way of delivering robust scheme management by making the best use of advisers, including where appropriate undertaking adviser benchmarking and selection exercises.

With a thorough understanding of pension scheme operations and the ability to clearly communicate complex matters, Sarah confidently navigates challenging scenarios while prioritising positive member outcomes.

Sarah is recognised for her balanced and member-centric approach. She carefully weighs the interests of all stakeholders to ensure decisions support the scheme’s long-term sustainability. Her collaborative style fosters strong relationships with co-trustees, employers, and advisers, enabling effective and constructive governance.

With her blend of actuarial expertise, governance acumen, and commitment to member-focused decision-making, Sarah is a trusted and highly effective trustee across a wide variety of scheme types and sizes.

Amanda Burden

Director and Governance Specialist

Amanda is a Board Director of Pi Partnership Group and leads the development of Pi’s services. She works closely with clients, the Pi team and professional advisers to ensure all of Pi’s services meet the changing needs of the pension market and deliver clear value to Pi’s clients.

Amanda has over twenty-five years’ experience in the pensions industry and, as well as ensuring Pi’s services continue to meet the needs of our clients in a rapidly changing pension landscape, is also a member of Pi’s Executive Management Team. She provides specialist project management for clients on a range of services, including adviser selection and review, trustee board assessment and governance design.

As well as being a Fellow of the Pensions Management Institute (PMI) and Chair of the PMI London Group, Amanda holds PMI certificates in Pensions Automatic Enrolment and DC Governance, was a past Prince2 practitioner and is a Certified Risk Management Practitioner.

What do you most enjoy about your role:  Successfully delivering complex projects and creating a happy team environment.

Interests outside work: Travel, theatre and as part of Abundance London helping create beautiful spaces in urban settings.

Top achievement to date: Competing in the 2005/06 Round the World Clipper race.
