Sharon Hudson
Project Manager
Sharon has over 40 years’ experience in the pensions industry, beginning her career in administration with one of the UK’s largest benefit consultancies. Throughout this time, she has managed teams responsible for delivering ongoing administration services and played a key role in the installation of new schemes. Sharon has established administration processes and provided comprehensive training and support to employer in-house pension support teams. She has collaborated closely with Trustees and employers to build collaborative relationships with all service providers, ensuring smooth delivery of complex projects.
For the last 28 years, Sharon has specialised in de-risking and endgame solutions, becoming a recognised expert in managing a wide range of projects designed to reduce scheme liabilities. Her expertise includes winding-up lump sums, enhanced transfer values, pension increase exchange, and trivial commutation exercises. She has experience working with schemes winding up in deficit, navigating the complexities of cutting back member benefits, consulting with the Pension Protection Fund and the Financial Assistance Scheme. Equally, she has supported schemes winding up with a surplus, assisting with member benefit enhancements and managing the return of surplus payments to employers.
Sharon has been involved in numerous buy-in and buy-out transactions and has developed detailed knowledge of most buy-out insurers’ pre and post transaction processes and requirements. Having led a specialist endgame administration team, she fully understands the complexity of data requirements and appreciates the meticulous administrative work necessary to discharge liabilities correctly.
Since joining Pi, Sharon has been instrumental in supporting trustees’ understanding of the endgame journey, helping them set realistic expectations around timing and risk management. She has guided two schemes through buy-in preparation and transactions, provided trustee training and support to boards preparing for buy-outs and administration transitions, and assisted in managing projects to simplify DC schemes with DB underpin benefits ahead of buy-in.
