Vanessa Walker

Professional Trustee

A highly experienced Professional Trustee, Vanessa has over 25 years’ experience working in the Pensions industry. An Accredited Trustee through the Association of Professional Pension Trustees, she started her career in local government and then moved into administration, and projects, and more latterly pension scheme management.   Her passion is governance and ensuing things are done in a proportionate and effective way, the breadth of her experience means she can deliver real value to a Trustee Board whether that is supporting her fellow trustees or acting as lead Trustee in a Sole Trustee framework.

Prior to becoming a trustee, Vanessa spent over 18 years provide pension management services and was the central governance support to a variety of Boards in the UK.   Over her career she has covered a range of matters, from: backdating part-time membership for women, scheme closure, contingent asset arrangement, first time administration outsourcing and changing of administrator, Scheme mergers, governance reviews, advisor & trustee appointments and communications to name but a few.   This experience has provided her with a valuable grounding in scheme operations and governance.

Since becoming a trustee, she has worked on a variety of Schemes from £10million to £2.5billion, both as Sole Trustee and co-trustee as well as chairing Governance and Administration Committees supporting scheme through administration issues, pension dashboard, GMPE and the general code.

She has a strong understanding of the matters facing trustees and utilises her extensive technical experience to work with stakeholders to reach pragmatic decisions in a collaborative way whilst also focusing on cost-effective governance.   She cuts to the heart of the issues assessing relative risks and benefits of the options available, this alongside her strong communications skills allows her to bridge concepts and thinking with employers.

In addition to her day job, Vanessa was involved with setting up the Pensions UK Southwest Regional Group in 2025 and continues to sit on their committee, giving her time to support development for other trustees, sponsors and advisors.

We provide regular opportunities to share knowledge amongst our teams through Lunch Time Learn in sessions and actively encourage involvement and participation into this.

Amanda Burden

Director and Governance Specialist

Amanda is a Board Director of Pi Partnership Group and leads the development of Pi’s services. She works closely with clients, the Pi team and professional advisers to ensure all of Pi’s services meet the changing needs of the pension market and deliver clear value to Pi’s clients.

Amanda has over twenty-five years’ experience in the pensions industry and, as well as ensuring Pi’s services continue to meet the needs of our clients in a rapidly changing pension landscape, is also a member of Pi’s Executive Management Team. She provides specialist project management for clients on a range of services, including adviser selection and review, trustee board assessment and governance design.

As well as being a Fellow of the Pensions Management Institute (PMI) and Chair of the PMI London Group, Amanda holds PMI certificates in Pensions Automatic Enrolment and DC Governance, was a past Prince2 practitioner and is a Certified Risk Management Practitioner.

What do you most enjoy about your role:  Successfully delivering complex projects and creating a happy team environment.

Interests outside work: Travel, theatre and as part of Abundance London helping create beautiful spaces in urban settings.

Top achievement to date: Competing in the 2005/06 Round the World Clipper race.
